Through Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS, the traditional family business from Lucerne celebrates the fine art of watchmaking elegantly combining tradition with innovation. In keeping with this fascinating approach comes the most recent addition to the exclusive collection: a collaboration with Breguet. The Marine 5517 model makes its debut in a new and exciting creation with a deep blue engine-turned dial, paired with a titanium case – a first for this model range.
Bucherer and Breguet have worked closely together for a number of years, with the two traditional establishments sharing the same values and an inspirational passion for innovation. This, the latest Breguet BLUE EDITIONS, expresses their philosophy to perfection. Thierry Esslinger, CEO of Breguet, says: “We are very proud to work with Bucherer on this unique Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS project, and have created a model that reinterprets our legendary Marine 5517, representing the spirit of the collection and our ongoing quest for excellence to perfection.” Patrick Graf, Chief Commercial Officer at Bucherer, adds: “We are thrilled at how Breguet has implemented our idea for the Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS in one of their most recent models. They have succeeded in curating the perfect fusion of the brand’s rich watchmaking expertise with contemporary design – this is a real highlight for our collection.”
A Nautical Inspired Masterpiece
The luxurious Marine 5517 sports watch is a wonderfully fitting homage to the ingenious Abraham-Louis Breguet, who, at the decree of King Louis XVIII in 1815, was awarded the title of “Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy” – the most prestigious for a watchmaker of the day. Breguet has reinterpreted the design of its Marine collection, while lending a modern touch to its iconic features, such as the fluted caseband and the famous “moon” tip hands.
Thanks to this collaboration with Bucherer, a “new” Marine 5517 makes its debut – and with its deep blue tones and exclusive design elements, a striking impression is guaranteed. The Breguet Marine 5517 Bucherer BLUE EDITIONS was designed for the modern watch connoisseur who values the very finest craftsmanship and is looking for something truly special. The Marine collection displays its athletic side with a redesigned fluted case featuring a central lug. A first for the new Marine line is the light yet sturdy 40 mm titanium case, which is resistant to salty air and corrosion, that has been paired with an intense blue dial. The icy tone of the titanium and the deep shades of blue makes the Breguet Bucherer BLUE EDITION a strikingly masculine timepiece.
As the only model in the Marine 5517 series, this special edition features a silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals. The classic Breguet hands in white gold also enjoyed a modern makeover and are coated with a luminescent material. Breguet references its maritime history several times in the design of this sporty yet elegant men’s watch. One of the models most striking features is the deep blue with a wave pattern executed by hand on a rose engine. From this, the eye is then drawn to the consummate crown with wave-shaped embellishments and a distinctive ‘B’ that stands for Breguet. True elegance: among the symbolic details inspired by the seafarers of old, some are discovered only with a second glance. The reverse side of the watch reveals the exceptional design of the rotor, the shape of which calls to mind a ship’s wheel. Meanwhile, the bridges of the movement, reminiscent of a ship’s deck, are decorated with Geneva stripes and enhanced with a guilloche technique that can be admired through the sapphire-glass caseback.
